"The cylinders were inspired by a series of drawings on paper that I brought with me to Pilchuck as a student. Flora liked the line quality and subject matter of the drawings and was challenged by the idea of translating them onto a blown glass form. Her idea was to replicate the pencil drawing by bending thin metal wires into similar images and embed them onto the surface of a glass vessel during the blowing process. Eventually color was added by melting different colored glass threads within the wire structure prior to being picked up on the vessel. As we developed the technique, new to the glass making process, our artistic vision also came together and our collaboration began."
